Priority: Provide Comprehensive Arts Education for TK-12 Students

Goal 1: Weekly Arts Instruction

  • Objective: Ensure all TK-12 students receive weekly instruction in various arts disciplines.
  • Implementation Tasks:
    • Integrate curriculum across theatre, dance, visual arts, media arts, and music.
    • Increase music instructional minutes for TK-5 students.
    • Establish elementary instrumental programs.
    • Align supplemental Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) programs with the district's Arts for All Plan.
  • Timeline: Annually review curriculum and provide professional development for teachers.

Goal 2: Staffing and Professional Development

  • Objective: Hire and maintain credentialed teachers for arts education.
  • Implementation Tasks:
    • Hire additional music credentialed teachers to provide weekly general music instruction.
    • Support the funding of music consultants for grades TK-1 as needed.
    • Offer professional development for elementary music teachers to ensure quality standards-based instruction.
  • Timeline: Continuous hiring and training from 2023-2025.

Goal 3: Instrumental Programs

  • Objective: Develop and support elementary and middle school instrumental music programs.
  • Implementation Tasks:
    • Use Orff and rhythm instruments for general music instruction.
    • Provide ukulele instruction for 5th grade students as funding allows.
    • Establish and maintain a strings program at the middle school level.
    • Identify and secure funding for supplementary music programs.
  • Timeline: Implement and expand programs from 2023-2025.

Goal 4: Facilities and Equipment

  • Objective: Ensure all school sites have sufficient facilities and equipment for arts instruction.
  • Implementation Tasks:
    • Assess and upgrade current facilities as needed.
    • Provide dedicated instructional, storage, and rehearsal space at each school site.
    • Create and maintain an inventory of instruments and other necessary equipment.
    • Purchase ukuleles and other instruments to support general music instruction.

Goal 5: Theatre and Dance Programs

  • Objective: Expand theatre and dance instruction in middle and high schools.
  • Implementation Tasks:
    • Align middle school VAPA courses with high school pathways.
    • Incorporate dance within the PE curriculum and offer elective courses in theatre and stagecraft.
    • Hire and maintain credentialed theatre arts teachers.
  • Timeline: Implement and expand programs from 2023-2025.

Goal 6: Funding and Community Support

  • Objective: Secure funding and build community partnerships to support arts education.
  • Implementation Tasks:
    • Communicate fundraising efforts and secure grants.
    • Provide matching funds for arts-related grants.
    • Develop strategies for production sponsorships and fundraising.
  • Timeline: Ongoing efforts from 2023-2025.
